Design Thinking

At Bonjourney, we work step by step towards a strong digital product. From strategy to design, delivery and optimisation. Our approach is based on Design Thinking, adapted to the reality of startups and scale-ups: fast, flexible and feasible. No bulky reports, just momentum. That’s why our way of working is practical and adaptable.

We only do what’s necessary, aligned with where you are right now
We work in manageable steps, allowing us to see results quickly and adjust where needed
We use our own tools and formats to maintain speed without losing depth
What we deliver is concrete and ready to use

We have extensive experience building and evolving multiple products within the same ecosystem, but we’re just as comfortable working on a single standalone product.

Design Thinking consists of six phases. Which phases we go through and where the emphasis lies is something we decide together based on where you are today, what’s already clear and where more focus is needed.

digital product development process framework

Empathize

We start by listening. To your ambitions, your people and your customers. We want to understand what’s happening, where friction occurs and what’s needed to achieve your goals.

Examples of outcomes:

Direction based on insights from customer interviews and observations
Overview of all touchpoints, flows and underlying systems
Insight into friction, needs and opportunities within your organisation
Focus through clear audience segmentation
Well-founded decisions, based on real customer stories rather than assumptions
Clear goals, challenges and assumptions captured during an inventory workshop
A sharp view of the current customer or employee journey (as-is journey)
Shared understanding of priorities through a team alignment session
Strategic insight into the strengths and growth opportunities of your brand, product or service

Define

We clarify what truly matters. We distil the main challenges and opportunities down to their core and define focus. This sets goals, priorities and constraints.

Examples of outcomes:

Clear definition of your core challenges and opportunity areas
A well-defined ideal customer, through an Ideal Customer Profile
Clear priorities, supported by an effort-impact analysis
Insight into your value proposition, both internally and externally
A shared product vision or ambition that guides further decisions
High-level overview of what’s needed and when, via a UX or product roadmap
Insight into alignment or contradictions between initiatives, ideas and ongoing plans
A clear scope proposal, aligned with feasibility and maximum impact

Ideate

Based on insights, we explore different directions. Ideas are developed into solutions that are logical and feasible.

Examples of outcomes:

Visualised directions through concept sketches or proposed flows
A clear design direction, supported by moodboards or style variants
Fast validation of ideas using low-fidelity wireframes to show what works and what doesn’t
Clarity in functionality through defined logic and user flows
Validation with stakeholders through internal test sessions or reviews
Direction for content structures, ensuring information is logical and easy to find
Clear decision-making supported by structured concept presentations

Prototype

We make ideas tangible through prototypes, clickable demos or early versions. This allows us to quickly see what works and what doesn’t.

Examples of outcomes:

Fully designed screens in your visual style, ready for review and testing
Interactive click-through demos to validate designs with users or customers
Consistent interface decisions captured in a design system or UI component library
Insight into usage and bottlenecks through user testing, moderated or unmoderated
Accessible designs aligned with WCAG guidelines
Strong alignment with development, ensuring design and technology work smoothly together

Test

We test designs with customers and/or internal teams and validate our hypothesis. Feedback is used to sharpen decisions and improve designs.

Examples of outcomes:

Insight into user experience and pain points through usability tests or scripts
Targeted feedback from users and stakeholders
A clear overview of improvement points, insights and learnings
Fast summaries of test results with direct analysis and conclusions

Implement

We support delivery and align closely with the development team. From collaboration to further development, with your own team or our Bonjourneys.

Examples of outcomes:

A technically solid product, logically structured and ready to scale
Clear planning towards launch, supported by sprint planning and a go-live roadmap
Control over content management through a content plan or CMS training
A carefully managed launch, supported by checklists and test scenarios
Improved discoverability and performance through SEO optimisation or performance scans
Initial concrete improvements based on user insights after launch
Clear insight into next steps via a retrospective with learnings and recommendations
